Woman Gets 7 Years for Murder-for-Hire

By Brad Belote

A federal judge sentenced an Alton woman to seven years and three months in prison for a murder-for-hire.

Kari Jolene Brown pleaded guilty in May to trying to hire an undercover police officer to kill her husband. Brown contacted the officer in February 2006 and offered $10,000 to killer husband, Randy R. Brown. She provided the officer a photograph and description of his car.

According to a press release, Brown gave the officer $440 as a down payment and told him she would give him another $1,000 after her husband was killed. She told the officer she would be selling some of her possessions in order to raise the rest of the money.
