Gov. Beebe Declares 26 AR Counties Disaster Areas

By KSPR News

Arkansas's governor made disaster declarations Thursday.

Governor Mike Beebe declared 26 counties disaster areas because of floods and heavy rain.

That includes 13 counties in the northwest part of the state. Those counties are Benton, Washington, Carroll, Madison, Boone, Newton, Marion, Searcy, Baxter, Fulton, Stone, Sharp, and Izard.

The declaration will help state and local emergency officials coordinate more easily.

The Arkansas Emergency Management Department is also trying to secure federal aid.
