Sheriff believes foul play involved in girl's disappearance

By Kyle Bosch

STELLA, Mo. (AP) - Investigators believe foul play was involved in the disappearance of a 9-year-old girl from her southwest Missouri home late Friday or early Saturday.

Authorities say Rowan Ford of Stella was getting ready for bed around 8:30 p.m. Friday when her mother -- Colleen Spears -- left for work at a nearby Wal-Mart.

Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland said the girl's stepfather --
David Spears -- told them that she was asleep when he looked in on
her before going out with friends around 10:45 p.m.

Copeland said no signs of a crime were found at the home, and no
charges had been filed by last night. The sheriff said investigators "have every reason to believe there is foul play
involved."
