Here’s a story of physics and a higher power working together to save the life of a New York City window washer.
He fell 43 stories from a New York skyscraper and lived to tell about it.
Alcides Al-Seemoreno has been washing windows on tall buildings for 12 years.
On December 7th the scaffold he was standing on gave way and fell 43 stories.
Al-Seemoreno broke both legs, had severe chest, abdomen and spinal column injuries but on Christmas Day he spoke for the first time since the accident and he's on his way to a full recovery.
Doctor’s are at a loss, calling it a miracle, but the science world say physics played a roll.
"Evolution didn't give us a body that could survive a drop from that distance but with a combination of luck and physics you can in fact survive one of these falls," Michio Kaku, a professor of physics said.
Alcides was working with his brother when their scaffold collapsed.
His brother was thrown clear and died, Alcides managed to hold on.
Window washers are taught to lie down on their scaffold to absorb and spread out some of the impact.
