WINONA, Mo. -

An inmate who escaped from the Shannon County jail is back in jail.

Winona Police Chief Alonzo Bradwell says officers tracked Jason McClurg to a camper trailer where he was hiding in the city of Winona early Sunday evening.

McClurg had been on the run since he escaped from custody on Friday night. He had been in an outside area of the jail in Eminence watching a fireworks display with other inmates when the sheriff says he ran away.

Chief Bradwell says the capture was made after doing interviews and following up leads with the assistance of the Shannon County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Bradwell says McClurg surrendered peacefully and no one was hurt.

Shannon County Sheriff Steven Blunkall transported McClurg back to the county jail shortly after his capture. Bradwell says there have been no arrests at this time of anyone who may have assisted McClurg but that is also under investigation.

The deputy that took McClurg and the other inmates outside on Friday night was fired.

McClurg was charged with the murder of his wife in May. Prosecutors have accused McClurg of using a mixture of prescription drugs to poison some Kool-Aid that he gave to his wife.
