The Springfield-Greene County Public Library is selling back some excess space to the Springfield Public Schools. Central High School will be able to add more student parking in the future after buying an excess parking lot near the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library on Central Street. The lot entrance is off of Jefferson Avenue, across the street from the high school.
The Library District sold the 78-space lot to SPS for $150,500. The school district had been leasing the lot, on the northern edge of the library’s property, for about two years, Cooper said. The school district had since expressed interest in buying it for overflow parking for students.
The school district originally owned the property and sold it to the library district years ago when the library, then the Main Library, needed more parking. Library patrons still have a large parking lot just north of the building.
