The annual event acts as something of a barometer for how the residential construction industry can be expected to perform in the year ahead. In 2012, residential remodeling remains a healthy sector of the local economy.
The HBA is forecasting that a gradual, multi-year recovery in new home construction will begin to take shape in 2012.
"It's no secret that home building has been slowed in recent years," said Matt Morrow, CEO of the HBA of Greater Springfield. "But here, in the Greater Springfield area, unemployment is well below state and national
averages, and falling. We were recently recognized as the #3 market in the country for job creation. And our available housing inventory is well within normal ranges. That's why home prices have stabilized here. And it is why now is the absolute best time to consider buying, building or remodeling a home."
