Court documents show detectives searched a former Greene County Treasurer’s Office employee’s home for jewelry, receipts and banking information. On Thursday, Greene County deputies served a search warrant at the former employee’s home. Friday KSPR obtained records of what they found.
They searched for “jewelry, precious metals and stones, watches and other merchandise that may have been purchased at a jewelry store included but not limited to diamonds, bracelets, rings, earrings, and necklaces and their boxes purchased from Zales or any other jeweler.” Officers want all items purchased or appraised since January 1, 2004 to present. The search warrant shows deputies confiscated 13 receipts and more than 30 pieces of jewelry.
After the former employee was read her rights, officers say she admitted to stealing the money. They say she would rely on unanswered correspondence to people notifying them they should receive money. Officers say she would forge their names on claim forms and issue herself cash from the Treasurer’s office. Detectives say she admitted to shifting money between accounts to cover up her thefts.
The Greene County Prosecutor says it could take up to a month for charges to be filed.
