MO to consider putting public notices online

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri lawmakers are considering a bill that pits print newspapers against the Internet.
The bill would let cities publish certain information online instead of in the local paper. Supporters say it will help save taxpayers' money, but opponents worry there won't be anyone watching whether the government follows the law.
Like many other states, Missouri requires cities and counties to publish certain notices about government business in area newspapers.
The bill is expected to come before the Senate elections committee Monday afternoon.
