This story is still developing, but here's how it's unfolded as we know it-- Thursday night, and into Friday morning, authorities believe 8-month-old Eddie Salazar, Jr. disappeared. Authorities issued an amber alert. The baby's father told authorities two people broke into the house, beat him until he was unconscious, and took the baby. Neighbors say they didn't hear anything out of the ordinary.
By Friday morning, there was a massive manhunt in Carthage. More than 100 investigators and volunteers were on scene, including the Missouri Water Patrol and the American Red Cross. Though police believed they would find the eight-month-old alive, they called off the ground search by that night. What we didn't know at the time was the father, Eddie Salazar, Sr., had become a suspect, after police easily cleared a previous suspect from wrong doing.
By Saturday afternoon, police found baby Eddie, washed up in the Spring River. Authorities said the baby washed up against a limb in the river. His father, Eddie Salazar, Sr. was charged with filing a false police report and more charges are likely. Meanwhile, the autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.
Salazar has had a troubled past. He's been in jail before for robbery and stalking, among other things.
