MO House OKs drug tests for public officials

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri House members have voted to
require that lawmakers, judges and other state officeholders take drug tests every two years.
Public officials would be required to take the drug test before they take office and every two years after that. Refusing to take the test would be an admission that the official had used a controlled substance without permission.
The House voted 144-8 to add the mandatory testing onto a broader bill that establishes a system for drug-testing welfare recipients.
Lawmakers did not vote on the broader bill. It would require the Department of Social Services to test adults receiving cash welfare payments if there is reasonable cause to believe the person is using drugs.
