Former Teacher and Daycare Worker Sentenced for Raping Boy

Laura Kirkland worked at the Christian School of Springfield and at the Daycare the Nurturing Place.
But prosecutors say the abuse happened at her own home where she was babysitting a boy. Kirkland watched the boy from when he was 8 years old, but she said the abuse happened when he was 10.
After hearing from a psychiatrist who said she was making progress, judge Calvin Holden sentenced Kirkland to 14 years on two of the charges and probation was granted. She was sentenced to 7 years in prison on another sodomy charge and no probation granted.
Kirkland read a statement in the courtroom, saying how sorry she was and apologizing to her victim
