For those with fitness on their mind in the new decade it's all about motivation, or maybe the lack of it.
"Right now it's the cold. The cold is really keeping people away I think, and that first week. The first pound is killer," said Katelyn Dorsey while she was working out.
So, the Willard Parks and Recreation Department, along with Cox Health are stepping in to help trim your waistline.
The two are hosting a citywide "Biggest Loser Weight Loss Challenge" encouraging residents to kick those holiday pounds.
"The first of the year, everybody is thinking about weight loss. The number one in every survey taken is weight loss for New Year's resolutions," said Willard Parks and Recreation Director Kevin McDonald.
One of the biggest ways the "Biggest Loser Weight Loss Challenge" is helping people drive down the pounds, and meet their weight loss goals, is by helping them set the pace.
Each week participants are required to step up on the scale, and weigh themselves in. Otherwise, they risk the chance of losing their entry fee and the big prize.
The cost to enter the weight loss challenge is 20 dollars.
The winner in each division takes home 60-percent of that, while the runner-up takes home 40-percent.
And no worries, the contest is fair, no matter your size.
"It's not the most weight loss, it's most body fat percentage lost throughout the challenge," said McDonald.
And whether participating or not, it's a program many know from the popular tv show, and one that's a unique way to start off the new decade.
"It's a really neat program to get people in losing weight over the holidays, which I know is hard," said Dorsey.
Residents 18 and up wanting to participate in the "Biggest Loser Weight Loss Challenge" can contact the Willard Parks and Recreation Department by clicking here.
Again, the cost is 20 dollars, and you must be registered by Friday, January 8th.
The contest will broken down into 4 divisions including: Male or Female 18-34 and Male or Female 35 and up.
Cox Health will also provide a free one-week membership to the fitness facility in Willard to anyone participating.
