Salvation Army officials met outside UMB Bank Christmas Eve to announce the results of the holiday fundraising drive. In these tough times, they fell a little short of their $555-thousand dollar goal. Right now, they sit about $30-thousand dollars short to be exact--that's 95 percent of the goal.
The Salvation Army still has about a week to go to meet the goal, but the red kettle bell ringers have come off the street and will not be returning until after christmas.
"We've had a 30-percent increase in here, in our Christmas intake, so we've had more individuals to serve," says Major Norman Grainger with the Salvation Army. "We've had small money to lay out, so we've been pushed, really at both ends. We have more need and also we've fallen short of our goal, so we're really asking the community to step forward and push us really through that goal."
If you'd like to help the Salvation Army, you can still donate online.
Also, if this winter weather continues to develop like we predict---the Salvation Army will be opening its doors Christmas eve night and throughout the weekend. The non-profit will also be hosting a Christmas lunch starting at 11:30 a.m. at its location on 636 Boonville in Springfield.
