Early Wednesday morning, Sarah Palin's tour bus pulled in to the parking lot of Springfield's
Borders store for a book signing.
Hundreds lined up to meet the former vice presidential candidate.
Borders said it was expecting people to line up over night, but a few Palin supporters got there hours before predicted. The first man in line set up his fold-out chair at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon.
The scene Wednesday morning was reminiscent of Black Friday, merely 5 days prior, but the shoppers in line didn't come for the sale.
The 'doorbuster' item at borders Wednesday wasn't on the shelves.
In what the manager called "organized chaos," nearly 750 Sarah Palin fans waited to meet the politician.
"We've been up all night long, sitting in our lawn chairs, and just waiting for this time to come," says Lake Ozark resident Kelley McDaniel.
McDaniel and her family were second in line. They got to borders at 2:15 Tuesday afternoon.
"(We) didn't sleep at all, haven't slept at all," says McDaniel.
Despite the cold, McDaniel didn't mind the wait. This was her chance to meet a woman she admires.
"It's a moment in history. she's going to make history. she already has in some aspect," says McDaniel. "As the time gets nearer, your adrenaline starts to pump."
While McDaniel waited inside, Palin exited her tour bus outside.
...greeted by the cheers of the hundreds gathered to meet her.
Just minutes later, McDaniel was face to face with the woman she hopes will be the next President.
"I couldn't believe how personable she was. (She) asked me what my name was," says McDaniel.
Next for McDaniel: "I'm going to go home, take me a nap, and start reading," she says.
Borders says 732 people went through the line to meet Palin and get her autograph.
According to General Manager Gary Selby, It's the biggest signing event the store has held.
Which, of course, was good for sales. Borders won't release specific sales numbers, but workers estimate the store sold hundreds of books Wednesday.
