MU revises policy after cell phone incident

By Brad Belote

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Mike Bellman got more than he bargained for when he purchased a box of old cell phones previously used by the
University of Missouri athletics department.

The 25 phones that Bellman purchased for $190 included text messages to and from basketball coach Mike Anderson, football coach
Gary Pinkel
and Athletics Director Mike Alden. E-mails and contact numbers were also on the phones.

The university offered to buy them back, but Bellman hoped to get about $3,000 by selling them to a sports collector.

It wasn't clear if the phones have been sold. Calls and e-mails to Bellman on Tuesday were not returned.

Athletics department spokesman Chad Moller says internal procedures have been reviewed, and in the future, all information
will be wiped out of phones before they are discarded.
