Storm Destroys Texas County Mobile Home, Sends Man to Hospital

By Natalie Swallow

ROBY, Mo. Violent overnight storms are being blamed for fallen trees and power lines across southern Missouri and for destroying a mobile home in Texas County, seriously injuring the man inside. Also a close call with a 9 month old was avoided.

Roby fire officials say the man suffered serious head injuries early Thursday morning when he and parts of the structure were flung a quarter mile away. He was taken to the Fort Leonard Wood Hospital.

A woman and 9 month old baby who also lived in the home were out of town at the time of the storms. A fortunate coincidence because Fire Chief Bill Monroe says the baby's bedroom was hard hit, most of the baby's items were wrapped around trees.

Monroe thought it looked like a tornado struck the home but the National Weather Service is calling it straight line winds of more than 60 miles an hour.
