Police Surround North Springfield Apartment Building

Springfield police surrounded the Studio Rentals apartment complex in the 1000 block of West Norton late Saturday afternoon.
A woman inside an apartment on the third floor was taken to the hospital with an injury to her hand.
She told police a man they believe is her boyfriend assaulted her and that he had weapons inside the apartment.
About a dozen officers came to the building, and, thinking the suspect was still inside the apartment, attempted to lure him out by talking to him over the megaphone.
When he did not come out, officers left the scene.
They said they suspected the 29-year-old man was not there, and they did not have a warrant to search the unit.
Later, the man's friends found him passed out inside the apartment, and officers arrested him the parking lot.
