Springfield Man Charged with Arson, Allegedly Set Fire over Girlfriend

By KSPR News

A Springfield man is accused of setting another man’s business on fire because of an ongoing dispute over a girl. Fire Marshall William Spence says 26-year-old Michael Wayne Masten admitted to burning a building at 1001 W. College. The fire marshal says the suspect and the owner of Zak’s Pawn Shop had an ongoing argument over a girlfriend. The suspect allegedly made verbal threats to harm the owner and burn the building. The fire marshal says Masten set the building on fire on June 21, 2009. Masten is charged with second degree arson, a class C felony. Masten’s bond is set in the amount of $30,000.00. He can not have contact with John Anderson or the girlfriend and he can not possess any weapons.
