New seat belt law going into effect in Arkansas

By Kyle Bosch

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas motorists could get a ticket if they don't click it - they're seat belts, that is.

A new law going into effect Wednesday allows law enforcement officers to stop vehicles and issue citations if they don't see the
occupants wearing their seat belts.

Capt. Mike Jones of the Benton County Sheriff's Department says his officers have been told to use taign to kill Gov. Mike Beebe's plan to increase tobacco taxes as a way to fund 23 health-related programs.

His 56-cents-per-pack increase on cigarettes and an increase in the tax on other tobacco products was projected to raise about $72 million a year.
