Now that the Christian County Library District has the “what” and “where” they hope the voters will give them the go-ahead.
Saturday the district unveiled a piece of property that now officially belongs to them.
They want it to be the site of one of three brand new libraries for the county.
But first citizens have to approve a bump from an 8.7 cent levy to a 25 cent levy in November.
District officials hope a visual will prove to a motivator.
“We are really excited to have not only the first closing on it but a spot we think is an outstanding location,” explains Christian County Library Director Mabel Phillips.
“Everyone who lives in the area knows where Highway 14 is, where Highway K is, and to have access from both of them is really exciting,” she continues.
The other two libraries will be built in Sparta and the Ozark-Nixa area.
Phillips says 25 cents is the average levy for libraries serving communities between 30,000 and 80,000 patrons.
