Survivor of Sunrise Beach Home Invasion Speaks Out

By Will Carter, KSPR News

Lake of the Ozarks seems like an unlikely place for a home invasion, but a year ago Bob Metcalf and his wife fell victim.

A man claiming his boat was broken down asked Metcalf to use the phone, that's when things took a drastic turn and shots were fired.

"I turned around, came back in, and he followed me," said Metcalf.

Three rounds hit him in the legs and abdomen.

After a year of surgeries, things are not the same.

"It's severely limited me on what I can do.  I've always been really active.  Just very active," said Metcalf.

But the whole incident caused scars way beyond the physical ones.

On the night of the home invasion it was storming badly outside, but the suspect tried to enter a sliding door.  He first opened the screen, then tried to pull the glass.  Realizing it was locked, he turned to leave.  That's when Mr. Metcalf met him at this back door, where he asked for help.

Now, the days of being a good samaritan may be gone for this couple.

"If someone needs help, we're going to drive on by.  As where, we used to be the ones that would help," said Cindy Metcalf.

To this day, the home invasion is still a mystery.

The Metcalfs are offering a $10,000 reward for help in solving the crime, but what they really want is closure.

"Not only is the reward out there, but we just want to know.  We just want to see the guy punished for what he's done," said Metcalf.

The Metcalfs say since the incident they both carry firearms for their own protection.

If you have any information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible, please call the Camden County Sheriff's Department at (573) 346-2243.
