How to Get to New Midfield Terminal

By Natalie Swallow

Less than a month out until the move to the new terminal, and Springfield-Branson National Airport officials want to make sure flyers are ready.

While Midfield Terminal is in the same area as the old terminal, folks will not take the same route to get there, and actually doing so will cause them a bit of a headache come May 6 when all flights move over there.

As crews do finishing touches at the new Midfield Terminal, MoDOT is working to finish Airport Boulevard, which will take you to the new terminal.

No more taking Kearney to get to the airport. Chestnut Expressway will be the route to take.

"They'll go out west Chestnut about a mile west of I-44, and when you get out west of I-44, there will be a brand new road open, called Airport Boulevard. Just hang a right and follow it straight to terminal," Kent Boyd from the Springfield-Branson National Airport said.

It's pretty simple, but go to the old terminal May 6 or after, and it won't be as easy.

"Most people aren't familiar with lay of land out here. You have to know where you are going. They'll have to go back down Kearney East, then hang right into industrial park and follow that to Division, and then hang right, and they'll end up at new terminal," Boyd said.

Having to back track could take five to ten minutes and could result in missing your flight.

If you are one of those people who gives yourself just enough time to check your bags, get through security, and make your flight, you should know airlines won't hold any flights for tardy travelers.

The airport suggests showing up a couple hours before your flight the first week here at new midfield terminal.
