Senators vote to restrict funds for Speed Trap

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri senators take aim at a small town along Interstate 70 that they say is a speed trap.
Senators approved a measure Thursday that limits the amount of traffic fines kept by a city with fewer than 1,000 people on an interstate highway to no more than 35 percent of the town's annual revenue. Money collected over that limit would go to schools.
Republican Sen. John Griesheimer, of Washington, said the provision is targeted at Foristell, a town of about 330 in western St. Charles County. He says the town has one of the highest levels of traffic fines.
The provision was amended to a larger transportation bill the Senate passed 34-0.
