A Joplin teen accused of firing a rifle inside his middle school may never have the chance to defend himself.
A state psychologist ruled that now 16-year-old Thomas White is permanently unfit to stand trial.
White was 13 when he walked into Joplin's Memorial Middle School in October 2006 where, prosecutors say, he fired one round into a ceiling and tried to shoot the principal.
Prosecutors get one more chance; they are allowed to seek a second expert opinion on White's mental competency.
