150 Springfield Bakery Employees to be Laid Off

By KSPR News

The company that owns a Springfield bakery says it's closing its doors in Springfield and Columbus, Ohio.

Interstate Bakeries Corporation expects to turn the ovens off May 9 in its location at 312 S. Grant.

When KSPR called the local bakery they said 150 people work at the Springfield facility.

The Company blamed the closure on local market developments, including a decline in bread purchases.

“While closing bakeries is always a difficult decision to make, it’s important that we continue to shape our business to meet the demands of the marketplace. We deeply regret the impact this decision will have on our talented employees and their families,” said IBC Chief Executive Officer Craig Jung.

Interstate Bakeries Corporation is one of the nation’s largest commercial bakers and distributors of fresh-baked bread and sweet goods.
