Marion County: No Electricity, No Water for Many Rural Areas

By Emily Rittman

In Marion County Arkansas, most of the ice and snow has melted in and around Yellville.

However, thousands are still without power.

The power outages are causing another problem.

Many rural areas don't have running water because there's no electricity to pump more water into wells and water districts.

In Yellville, the water stopped running around 5:00 p.m. Thursday.

The Marion County Emergency Management Director says by 9:00 p.m. power was back on at the water department.

The director says the pressure will likely be back to normal by Friday morning.

The director says it is still a good idea to boil water in Yellville.

Marion County emergency officials say they're being told it could take up to two weeks to get everyone back on-line because so many people have problems with the feeder lines on their homes.
