New Library Director Checks in to Greene County

By KSPR News

The new Springfield-Greene County Library Director checked-in Monday.

Regina Greer Cooper signed up for her library card on her first day as the new library director.

Cooper came from Huntsville, Alabama where she worked in the library for almost 30 years.

She says she's excited to come to Springfield where innovative library branches like the new Park Central Square branch are a reality.

She says in these tough economic times libraries can really help people.

"They provide things people aren't going to be able to continue to provide on their own. Like our computer services and things to read. Whenever there is a bad economy that makes it really more important to have a library," said Cooper.

Cooper was selected from four finalists. She replaces Annie Busch who retired after 23 years with the library district.
