DTV Problems?

By Michelle Sherwood

The transition to digital TV is still a few weeks away, but already people are reporting problems with their reception.

Many stations in the Ozarks are already broadcasting their digital signals—including KSPR—but some viewers have told us are having a hard time receiving the signal. People also say, in some cases, they get some channels while not seeing others.

We talked to Best Buy about solutions, and just how digital TV differs from the analog signal.

"With an analog signal, you either got a snowy signal or a good signal, but you still see a picture,” says Jesse Goethe, customer service rep. “With a digital signal, it's basically all or nothing. So you either end up with a completely blank screen or a perfect picture."

Sometimes you can be too close to the transmitter. It's suggested you check your converter box for signal strength and try to reposition your antenna. Many of the digital signals are very directional. Boosters for your antenna can also help in some cases.

We’ll be doing more stories on this as we get closer to the digital switch.
