Local Real Estate Agent Helps Greenleaf Victims

By KSPR News

Dozens of Ozarkers were left homeless after the houses they never really owned were foreclosed on.
The catch is these people say they made every mortgage payment.
The homes were bought through The Real Estate Company and its sister private lender Greenleaf.
Both Springfield companies were raided by the FBI and reprimanded by the Missouri Secretary of State's Office and the Attorney General.
But what about the people uprooted from their homes?
A local real estate agent didn't realize exactly what she was getting herself into when she helped a former Greenleaf client buy a new home.
His good review of her services led her to five more families desperate for places to live.
The freshly painted mint green walls lined with toys are a dead giveaway- Anita Raybon runs a daycare.
But about a month ago she was preparing to tell the handful of working parents who depend on her she'd have to close up shop.
“We weren't even sure we could rent a house with the situation we were in. We didn't know what would happen really,” Anita explains.
She and her husband Eurl plus their daughter Brandey and her family lost the last home they shared to foreclosure, even though they say they paid their mortgage.
They bought through Greenleaf and The Real Estate Company.
So how did the Raybon's end up here?
“We believe in trusting God. We believed something was going to come our way and that's where Crystal came in,” says Eurl.
“My goal is to have them in as quick as possible- usually within a week, two weeks at the most,” explains real estate agent Crystal Blankenship.
She has become a lifeline for Greenleaf victims.
“There are people who will do owner financing, contract for deed, lease purchase options."
Blankenship makes sure the sales are legitimate and then tries to cut a deal with the sellers- a hard thing to do since her clients don't have great credit.
She says for her clients who can no longer afford a large down payment she's been able to get them in a home for just a thousand dollars down.
In some cases the owner is even allowing the buyer to pay just half that up front and the other half thirty days later.
"The builder is willing to work with them,” Blankenship tells KSPR.
The Raybons are leasing but plan to purchase this place in one year.
“We love this home.”
The couple knows a thing or two about care, and they say their agent took care of them.
The Raybon's new home actually cost about $115,000 less than the old one they lost, and they say they are much happier there.
Blankenship encourages Greenleaf victims to contact her.
