St. Louis alderman calls on residents to get armed

By KSPR News

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis alderman wants his constituents to get gets and learn how to use them.

Alderman Charles Quincy Troupe says he is frustrated with police response to crime in his neighborhood.

He says that "God-fearing, law-abiding citizens and homeowners" are being preyed upon by criminals, and that police are ineffective, outnumbered, or don't care.

University of Missouri-St. Louis criminologist Richard Rosenfeld says the sentiment is understandable but that more guns only compound crime problems in communities already awash with guns.
