Christmas Party Date Discrimination?

By Will Carter, KSPR News

Clint Bradley used to work in human resources for Positronic Industries, and says a recent email that detailed who employees were allowed to bring to their company Christmas party was upsetting.

"What went out from that email was blunt discrimination," said Bradley.

In the email sent to employees it reads...."The only person an employee can take as a companion to the Christmas party is an individual that they are married to, or under the current laws of Missouri, they can marry."

"To start dictating to the employees who you can bring to a company Christmas part out of appreciation still says you are not completely welcome here at this company.  We appreciate you labor, but you are still not completely welcome," said Bradley.

Bradley decided to stand up for his coworkers by forwarding the email to the media, ultimately getting him fired.

"They told me I had jeopardized confidential information outside to the public.  It wasn't a confidential email.  There was nothing that stated confidentiality," said Bradley.

We contacted Positronic for an on camera interview, but they refused to do so saying what was in the email was not the company policy.  However, Bradley says those very demeaning words were posted allover company bulletin boards.  He did say, however, after he contacted the media, things took a turn within the company.

"Well they did retract, and they ended up telling instead of sending it out in a company email...they ended up just telling the employees that you can bring whoever you want as long as they are 18 years of age," said Bradley.

But Bradley says at the end of the day, the company set a negative precedent for its employees.

"They just want to have the same equal amount of rights, knowing they are as good of an employee as the next person who's working just as hard," said Bradley.

We talked briefly to the Human Resources Director of Positronics who only said they would not comment because they considered the matter a in internal conflict involving personnel.
