Your Two Cents on the Economy

By Will Carter

For just a couple of pennies, we were all ears to your thoughts on the economy.

"I feel the economy sucks, because bankers are being foolish with their money," said James Atwell.

"Bottom line, I think the reason we are here is because of greed," said Ken Childers.

Maybe it was that very reason that collecting your two cents was hard to do. On Friday afternoon, we sat and waited as dozens walked by us, either not having a couple of pennies to spare, or simply too frustrated with the economy to talk about it. However, for those like Gerald Telford, who survived the Great Depression, the solution lies within some good ole common sense.

"You can't solve it by printing more money, because if you print a dollar, it's worth 50 cents, and pretty soon it's only going to be worth a quarter," said Telford.

It's that reason many Missourians say we need to take control of our own spending, and stop relying on the government for a bail out.

"People have to have control. People should have responsibility," said Abraham Varthese.

"They think the government owes them a living. I've got news for them. They better wake up. They're going to be the ones hurting," said Telford.

Meanwhile, those who could feel the longest term affects of the economic crisis are Amerca's youngest, like 12 year old Nicole Green.

"Maybe when we get older it's going to be rough for us to pay for housing, and just to be able to get a house, and buy food, or get gas, and travel places," said Green.

Speaking of travel, many say if we paid more attention to what's going on at home, we wouldn't be in this crisis in the first place.

"We can't take care of everybody. I means we need to take care of our own first. I know people are hurting allover the world, but we're hurting here too," said Linda Sale.

So far the goverment has spent billions bailing out failing companies.
