Greene County Church Gets Historical Designation

By KSPR News
By Joanna Small

It's a building as old as the county it's in.
And now Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church just west of Willard is an official Greene County Historic Site.
Established in 1838, it was the fifth church and first Baptist church in the county.
Still it's not the building itself that makes this place so important but rather the people who worshipped there.
The church has ties to the Revolutionary War; the nearby cemetery includes the grave of veteran James Barham who served under Greene County's namesake, General Nathaniel Greene.
His grave also received historical designation over the weekend.
