Taney County Has Highest Smoking Rate in Missouri

By KSPR News

A new study from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services found Taney County has the highest county smoking rate in the state at just over 40 percent.

The same survey also found nearly two-thirds of Missouri's smokers want to kick the habit and 56 percent of adults support laws to ban smoking in public workplaces, including restaurants and bars.

The $1.4 million survey was funded by the Missouri Foundation for Health. Almost 50,000 Missourians were asked 136 questions on a wide range of tobacco-related issues.
