Flooding remains a big problem for many places.
The Finley River in Ozark rose several feet Sunday. The Christian County emergency management director said the river levels were higher Sunday than they were when we had bad flooding a few months ago.
Phil Amtower warned residents to take the flooding seriously and plan for the worst.
“We've got a lot of trees down,” said Amtower. “We had a lot of road closings last night with trees down and low water crossings that were impassable."
The river crested around 3 p.m. Sunday.
Water rescues were also an issue for emergency crews Sunday. One happened as late as 5:30 p.m. near Forsyth at Bull Creek. Authorities say three people thought it would be a thrill to go canoeing because of the fast moving waters. When the canoe tipped, one person made it out safely, but the other two people got hung up. One was found hanging on to a tree. The other person was hung up on some brush.
Authorities say it was a stupid thing to do.
"We don't recommend that you canoe in conditions like this, but we always have some people that try it,” says Jim Single, Taney County Assistant Fire Chief. These particular people were in a canoe, didn't have life jackets, didn't have any safety equipment, in which made the situation even more dangerous for them.”
