Sugar can give you a quick rush, but that's not the only fast thing it can give you.
Scientists say there's a possibility fructose is making us fatter, and it's happening faster than you may think.
Fructose from high fructose corn syrup worked its way into much of the American diet... from cereal to soda and beans to break.
A University of Texas Southwestern researcher put different kinds of sugars to the test and found fructose built up the most fat in a person's body.
"When fructose was present in the sweet drink, whether it was at 50% of its concentration, or 75%, we found that the fat synthesis rate, was more than twice, almost three times the rate as when we just fed glucose alone," said University of Texas Southwestern researcher Elizabeth Parks.
Nutritionists say the findings are very important considering how widespread high fructose corn syrup is in the American diet.

Well, Ms. Erickson, President of the Corn Refiners Association, here's a study that says it is NOT "handled similarly by the body" and is NOT "no different from other sweeteners." My husband's internist has told him point-blank to avoid all products containing high fructose corn syrup. I will eat nothing that contains this product. More and more people are becoming aware of it, and with any luck more and more will avoid it.

Well gee, I wonder why Audrae Erickson of the Corn Refiners Association would have an interest in posting a (prepared) statement like that. I hope what you're doing to the American diet is worth your share of subsidy money.

High fructose corn syrup, sugar, and several fruit juices all contain the same simple sugars. New research continues to confirm that high fructose corn syrup is no different from other sweeteners. It has the same number of calories as sugar and is handled similarly by the body. Consumers can see the latest research and learn more about high fructose corn syrup at www.HFCSfacts.com and www.SweetSurprise.com. Audrae Erickson President Corn Refiners Association
