Missouri Humane Society Rescuing Hundreds of Hurricane-Stranded Animals

By KSPR News

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The executive director of Stray Rescue St. Louis and the Humane Society of Missouri's Disaster Response Unit will help animals left homeless after Hurricane Gustav.

Randy Grim left Sunday night with Jeff Popowich of Best Friends Sanctuary as part of a first responders group traveling to New Orleans.

An eight-member team from the Humane Society of Missouri's Disaster Response Unit arrived in New Orleans Saturday morning. They brought hundreds of animal crates and semi-trucks to help rescue the animals.

Both the Humane Society of Missouri and Stray Rescue helped save animals in 2005, in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
