Police identified the man killed in Springfield early Thursday at the Glenwood Manor Apartments.
Someone shot 20-year-old, Raymond Khalid at 2540 N. Delaware Street around 12:30 a.m.
Police won't say much about their ongoing investigation.
They were still searching for the suspect or suspects Thursday evening.
Neighbors say Khalid knew something bad was going to happen.
According to neighbors he said, "If I don't come back. Call the cops."
By the time police arrived it was too late.
Police were originally called to investigate the sound of gunfire.
They found Khalid dead in his boxers in between two apartment complexes.
"I heard they came in busted in the door and held a woman at gunpoint." Neighbor Mathew Tucker said, “Then they chased him out the back door and shot him.”
Some neighbors say Khalid, known as Little Scrappy, was tied up.
"I don't know if he was tied up inside the apartment or afterwards.” Neighbor Jessica Coleman said, “Supposedly he tried to run out the back door."
While investigators combed the crime scene, several neighbors cried.
Many said they were too scared of retaliation to talk on camera.
Because part of the crime scene was out in the open, anyone could see Khalid's body.
"We have a lot of kids around here.” Raquel Cook said, “I'm worried about what could happen tomorrow."
"What if we are not fine some other day and we get caught in the middle of this mess.” Coleman said, “I don't want my daughter around drugs, weapons.”
Investigators went door to door and searched an apartment where neighbors say the deadly argument started.
Neighbors say there are so many children in this apartment complex because it is family low income housing.
They say crime isn't uncommon in this neighborhood.
Residents called police to the apartment 23 times in the last three months.
Police say an autopsy will reveal the exact cause of death.
They say Khalid did have one apparent gun shot wound.
Anyone with information is asked to call (417) 864-1810 or Crime Stoppers at 869-TIPS.
This is the city's seventh homicide.
Suspects are charged in five of the other six homicides.

I lived in a Springfield apartment complex once that when some of the residents associates came to shoot him and missed, they came back the next day and did shoot him. Because the complex didn't want bad publicity the news reported it as an accidental shooting...yeah right!
