UPDATE: Police Identify Motorcyclist Killed in Springfield Crash

By KSPR News

Larry Taylor, age 31, of Strafford, MO died Tuesday when his motorcycle crashed into a car at Division Street and LeCompte Road, in northeast Springfield.

Springfield police say Taylor was westbound on Division; officers on the scene say it appears he was speeding.

An eastbound car turned north, into the path of Taylor. A dip in the road may have obscured the driver's vision.

Police say Taylor was not wearing a helmet.

This is the 10th motor vehicle fatality in Springfield this year and 8th involving a motorcycle. Police say that's a marked up tick in the number of fatal crashes involving motorcyclists.

As a harley rider i feel for the family of this man. i would ask that people pay attention to the road and traffic when they are driving and dont talk on cell phones. i have had several close calls where people were using cell phones and just didnt see me. I would also urge that motorcyclist expect the unexpected, people are gonna make mistakes and not see you. be on you toes and watch traffic. ride defensively and slow down. Always were a helmet. its not cool, but it may save your life.

Unfortunately, as gas prices rise, there will be more cycle and scooter riders-and unforunately more of these kinds of accidents. Cycles are much harder to see, and as much as I would love to drive one-this concept really scares me. I am trying to be more vigilant to watch for cycles as these will be becoming a more common and logical solution to our dependence on foreign oil. My condolences and prayers are with this family.
