An Ozarks man who stared down the barrel of a smoking shotgun says his death wasn't in God's plan.
That man is Dan Sanders.
One day last March when an innocent driver was gunned down in Marionville, Dan Sanders could have been next, but he wasn't.
March 28-th this year, Lawrence county 911 was flooded with calls about a shooting on Route ZZ.
Dan was one of them. He's heard telling the dispatcher someone pointed a gun at him.
"I always like to help people on accidents," Sanders said.
He drove out of his way that day when he saw an accident.
When he rolled up, Jesse Miller had just shot the driver of a white bus.
As Sanders approached, Miller laid down in the middle of the road holding his shotgun.
"He approached the car on the drivers side he spoke to me a little bit," Sanders said. "I asked him if he needed help. That's when he pointed the gun at me. He kind of made a firing noise with his mouth, like bang.. like he was going to shoot me."
Sanders hit the gas and drove off.
Daues: He could have shot you?
Sanders: "He could have... could of... the only thing I can figue is God had a different plan."
Dan said he thought the guy was joking around until later when he heard the news that Miller had killed another driver minutes before pointing the gun at him. And then that he was killed by a police officer.
He says he was shaking for the rest of the day.
Sadly he says he's less likely now to stop and help someone else in need.
