Springfield City Council considers extra security.

By KSPR News

Springfield city council is trying to protect itself and city workers a little better.

Monday night the council discussed spending $125,000 dollars to upgrade security at city hall and the Busch building... That would include metal detectors and extra security officers.
The move comes in the wake of this year's fatal shooting spree at Kirkwood city hall.
Two members of the public expressed concerns about spending the money.

Carl heard spoke to council and said "if you had unlimited resources I would be in favor of the budget adjustment but this issue is about risk management."

Public speakers wanted to see the city spend more money on protecting neighborhoods with more police officers.
Council will likely vote on the issue in two weeks.

Council also approved a financing step for the new BKD office building at St. Louis Street and John Q Hammons Parkway.
And it approved changing a portion of bower street to Bob Barker Boulevard.
