Gubernatorial Debate in Springfield

By KSPR News

It was the first chance for Ozarkers to see the republican candidates for Missouri Governor square off in our own backyard.
Sarah Steelman and Kenny Hulshoff traded jabs in a televised debate on KSPR's sister station, KY3.
The debate allowed the two candidates to address specific claims made by each other's campaign.
They also got to ask each other questions directly.
KSPR spoke to them both after the debate about their sometimes contentious campaigning.
"It's contrasting my record with his record ... and his record is that he voted for earmarks. He voted for the earmarks that ran in those ads and has yet to explain to voters why he supported wasteful spending," said State Treasurer Sarah Steelman.

"I've been called immoral, I've been called deceitful, irresponsible. I'm responding to people across the state who said - after seeing Sarah's ads, that the tenor and tone reminds them of 1992," said Congressman Kenny Hulshof.

That was the year of the last significant republican primary for governor between then republican Attorney General William Webster, Secretary of State, Roy Blunt and State Treasurer Wendell Bailey.

Wednesday's was the last debate between the two candidates before the primary election.
