CoxHealth will pay $60 million to settle Medicare investigation

By KSPR NEWS

After three years of investigation by the federal government CoxHealth has agreed to a multi-million dollar settlement.

Under terms of the agreement released Tuesday morning, Cox will pay the Justice Department $60 million. The payments include $35 million this year and $5 million for the next 5 years.

Cox was under investigation for it's Medicare billing practices and how it structured business relationships with physicians.

In a seperate agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services, Cox will enroll in a 5 year Corporate Integrity Agreement. That program includes legal compliance education and increase monitoring and reporting to the Department.

SECOND SUIT----

Cox health is on the other side of a different lawsuit.
The hospital is asking the city of Springfield to return the money it's paid to the hotel-motel tax since 19-91.
That's more than a quarter million dollars.
Cox claims its hospitality facility, where patients and families stay, should not be taxed because it is not open to the public.
A judge said the tax applied, now Cox wants the case to be reviewed
