A simple brain scan may help determine whether a child has autism.
Doctors rarely check the inner workings of the brain for signs of autism. Instead they use behavioral tests.
Neurologist Fernando Miranda is shaking up this diagnosis process by using MRI brain scans.
Research shows as many as 50% of children diagnosed with autism are misdiagnosed. Instead they may have hidden seizure-like activity in their brains, which can seem like autism.
Performing an MRI can find the seizures, and instead of diagnosing a child as autistic doctors can prescribe anti-seizure medications.

Ivan: Thanks for your comment. However, being the producer who wrote this story for the 4:30 newscast I feel the need to elaborate on your thoughts. If this story was paid for by a group or business who might have some benefit out of the results I most definitely would have mentioned that in the story.
