Police: Close Garages and Lock Your Doors

By Brad Belote

Springfield police say thieves are taking advantage of homeowners who don't secure their houses by closing their garage doors or locking side entrances.

Police say burglars have hit homes in the southeast part of the city during the early morning hours. Thieves are getting away with personal items, tools and other valuables.

Police encourage homeowners to lock all doors and windows and replace any locks that do not function or are inadequate.

Officers do not know if the break-ins are the work of a single person or a group.

Anyone with information should call 417-864-1810 or 869-TIPS.

This map shows where the most recent string of break-ins occurred.
