A Rogersville gas station was robbed at gun point, but the criminal made off with mere chump change.
Bill’s Quick Mart can thank a safe that's so safe even the clerks can't access it.
Gas stations are often the target of criminals after cash.
On May 8th, Bill's Quick Mart in Rogersville was, and the robber was successful... sort of.
"I've been here three years and never had a problem,” Bill’s Quick Mart Assistant Manager Tiffany Henderson says.
That was until a white man clad in black with a ski mask covering every facial feature save his eyes leapt over the counter at bill's quick mart and demanded the employee hand over cash.
The gunman did walk away with some money, but it wasn't much.
He only got what was in one of the cash register’s drawers.
Even the clerks don't have access to the big stuff.
That’s literally kept under lock and key in a safe the owner installed 21 years ago.
“I feel safer working here with no big money up there,” Henderson says.
This robber is only the second to hold up this convenience store, and the last guy didn't fare much better.
He made out with three packs of cigarettes and $3 in gas.
The store credits the safe.
“Every time we get a big bill in we drop a 10 or 20 into the safe. We only keep 5’s and 1’s in our drawer,” Henderson explains.
If cashiers need to make change they simply press a button for the bill they want.
Every single transaction eventually ends up in the safe; all credit card slips, checks, and even the extra smaller bills.
“We keep three 5’s in the drawer, that's it."
And the rest of the store is buried safely in the safe.
Only one bill can be released every two minutes, so it would have to be a pretty patient perpetrator to walk away with a sizable amount of change.
This robber has not been caught yet, so the Webster County Sheriff's Department is asking for your help.
The suspect has a distinct brown scar or birthmark on the inside of his left ankle.
There is a $500 reward for information leading to his arrest.
