KSPR's unclaimed property mission takes us to Frances’ front door
"I am a sports freak...the NBA is on tonight.... I'm into that and college basketball, college football... everything," Frances said.
So when we visited her last week we did what any self respecting house guest would do... sat down to watch the NBA game and shared the popcorn.
Frances had no idea how Missouri could have any of her unclaimed property.
She worked at Glendale High School for almost 30 years, and Penmac after that. And she's had to keep track of her money.
"I was a single mom I had 2 kids-- I had that day time job and 3 part times jobs, so I worked six nights a week in addition to my five days," she said.
And she's still working a couple of days a week in a Branson insurance company. So the prospect of getting some of her money back was like a Lebron James three pointer.
"This totally bumfuzzles me.. I'm blown away," she said.
We gave Frances the number to call, and it turns out she had an uncashed western union moneygram for a few hundred dollars.
She has no idea where it came from, but she knows where it's going.
"When you've been a single mom there's always a place. I'm not working two days a week for my health," Frances said.
The Missouri Treasurer's Office already sent her money back.
Frances says she may just use the money to see her first professional football game this season.
