Former Deputy Charged with Misdemeanor Assault

By Brad Belote

Prosecutors have charged former Greene County Sgt. Robert Green with misdemeanor assault for using a Taser to threaten a woman in the lobby of the courthouse last month.

A female legal assistant said that on April 8 Green, a 19 year veteran of the sheriff's department, pulled his Taser from its holster and came toward her in an aggressive manner. She said she put her hands in the air and saw a red laser light on her chest. Court documents show the woman told deputies she felt "trapped, detained, threatened and like she could not move."

After filing a complaint with the sheriff, Green resigned. He was also head of security at the courthouse.

Sheriff Jack Merritt said Green was the kind of employee who wore his uniform proudly on his day off.

Green told detectives he "screwed up." He told them he was joking with her.

I am sure her lawyer coached her just like the counties "coaches" you before a case. Though I wasn't there I must say I know the caliber of officer "Billy Bob" was/is his arrogance seems to have finally caught up with him. It is unfortunate that the good ole boys network seems to be dwindling. The public needs to take a strong look into the department for sure. They have quality people within the department they just need to utilize them in proper positions.
