Forsee: Missouri system opposes anti-affirmative action proposal

By Associated Press

University of Missouri President Gary Forsee says the university system opposes a proposed November ballot initiative designed to end affirmative action in public hiring and college admissions.

Claims that such programs result in reverse discrimination are "absolutely false," Forsee told participants Monday at a conference on Hispanic issues held at the university's Columbia campus.

Missouri is one of five states targeted by supporters as part of a broader effort to strike down affirmative action laws. Supporters have until May 4 to collect roughly 150,000 signatures from registered voters across the state.
